Banned Books Week 2012

Celebrate the Freedom to ReadEach year, Banned Books Week (9/30-10/6) celebrates our freedom to read. Both our online slideshow and our in-house display highlight popular and classic titles which have been challenged or banned at libraries across the United States. We've included the reason for a challenge or ban, and the call numbers of the books just in case you'd like to see what the fuss is all about!

To get an idea of how many books are challenged or banned, here's a list of frequently challenged books from the past decade. There's also a Banned Books Week Virtual Read-Out occurring on YouTube with people reading from their favorite banned books. For more info on banned books and your freedom to read, ask a librarian at the Reference Desk.
