A Snapshot: One Day in the Life of the Franklin Park Library
On February 10th, Illinois libraries participated in “Snapshot: One Day in the Life of Your Library” by collecting information, comments, and photographs from events in a typical library day. Thanks so much to our new Friends Group for their hard work throughout the day. The results below provide indisputable proof that the Franklin Park Library consistently provides invaluable services to our community.
- 359 people made their way to the library
- 162 of these people live in Franklin Park
- 33 were residents of neighboring communities
- 85% were adults, 5% were teens and 10% were children
- 400 books, movies, etc. were borrowed
- 518 items were returned, inspected and returned to the shelves
- 94 reference questions were answered
- 156 people used computers
- 33 were searching for jobs
- 52 needed to do homework
- 27 people came to attend programs
- There were 1089 visits to the Library’s webpage

A Snapshot Day "Thank You"
The library staff is gratefully to a group of hardy volunteers who braved the weather and made it in to help collect statistics and comments about the library from our patrons on February 10th.
They counted people who entered the library, categorizing them demographically. They handed out survey forms. Others took photos. All of this made it possible for the librarians to attend to the information needs of our patrons confident that we would be able to participate in this Statewide event.
Only 290 of Illinois' 3893 libraries were able to participate. That is less than 8% of all the libraries in Illinois and yet almost 190,000 people visited libraries that day. They borrowed 295,617 items. And on February 10th there were 5,160,186 visits to library websites.
Imagine what the numbers would be like if we had been able to get even half of the State's libraries to capture and share their statistics.
Once again thanks to all our volunteers.
Re: A Snapshot Day "Thank You"
I'm surprised so few libraries took part yet I'm so glad to see the positive total statistics for a day of harsh, wintery weather throughout the state. I wonder how much higher the counts would have been if taken on a Monday (one of the busiest days) and in a different month and season. I know our stats were definitely lower than normal because of these factors.
