Grand Ave. Aerial Photos
Through the center of this photograph is Grand Ave., which is running east of Rose St. (25th Ave.) You can see the eastern edge of Franklin Park and some of the homes south of Grand Ave. and west of Rose St. (25th Ave.). Just to the left of center in this photograph is the former Motorola building.

Angling from the center of the left-hand side of this photograph to the lower right-hand side is Grand Ave. The street running from the bottom left of the photograph to the upper right hand corner is Rose St. (25th Ave.). In the bottom center of the photograph is Main School (Hester Junior High School). Near the center of the photograph is Unimast, Inc. (the land where the new Walgreen's is being built). The large plant east of Unimast, Inc. is Joslyn Manufacturing and Supply (no longer there).

The street running from the bottom left corner to the center right side is Schiller Blvd. The street running from the center left to just past the bottom center of the photograph is George St. The street running from near the upper left corner to the upper right corner is Grand Ave. The street running from near the upper left corner running towards the center right side is Mannheim Rd. You'll notice that this is when homes were first being built in this area. You can see Mannheim School (now Enger School) in the top center of the photo. You will also notice this was before White Castle was built on the southeast corner of Grand Ave. and Mannheim Rd. It was before the Citgo Gas Station (Sweeny's) was built on the northeast corner of Grand Ave. and Mannheim, and before the Standard Oil Gas Station and Franklin Mall were built on the northwest corner of Grand Ave. and Mannheim Rd.

On the left side of this photograph running from top to bottom is Scott St. (Notice how it has not been completely paved at this point.) The street coming up from bottom center is Hawthorne St. (unincorporated Leyden Township). The paved road running from left to right across the center of the photo is Herrick St. The paved road beneath Herrick St. is Montana St. The unpaved road beneath Montana St. is Fullerton Ave. The first curved street to the right of Scott St. is Silver Creek Dr.; the second is Westbrook Dr., the third (which is barely detectable) is Hawthorne St. and the fourth street is Elder Lane. Silver Creek Dr. and Westbrook Dr. run from Scott St. to Fullerton. Hawthorne St. runs from Grand Ave. into Elder Lane. Elder Lane runs from Grand Ave. into Herrick St. (Hawthorne St. and Elder Lane extend north beyond Grand Ave. into Schiller Park). Across the top of the photograph you can see Schiller Blvd. Notice there is still a lot of undeveloped land in this vicinity at this time.
