New Enterprise Catalog Is Live!

Enterprise, the Franklin Park Library's newest online catalog, is now live. Here are some of the great new features you can now enjoy:

  • Better Quick Lists: Get quick lists of our newest movies, audiobooks, popular books, and more, complete with all the information you'd see in a regular search.
  • Faceted Search Filters: Looking for full-length DVD comedies in Spanish that were released between 2005-2012 and aren't rated G or R? Filter your search results to find exactly what you seek. Include material types you want and exclude those you don't!
  • Book River: If you're a visual person who doesn't know where to begin, look no further than Enterprise's front page. You can scroll through a dynamic river of all of the new additions and best sellers we have in the Library.
  • MyLists: Create a "To Read" list and mark off books as you finish them. Make a list of items you plan to check out during your next visit. Text the list to your phone, email it to yourself, print it out, or save it to your account for later access.
  • Improved Account Management: Log in to see which items you have checked out, manage your holds, renew items, and set your Library account preferences.

So go ahead and search for the next item you plan to check out. Use the search form on the top-right area of our website or enter your search below. If you'd like some help with the newer features, ask us!

New Catalog Coming Soon

On Friday, November 1st, the Franklin Park Library will phase out Aquabrowser and go live with its newest catalog, Enterprise. Those of you who visit the Library frequently have probably already gotten a chance to try Enterprise for yourselves. We'd like to give you this opportunity to test it out on the computer you're using right now!

Take these next few days to familiarize yourself with the new catalog before we make the official switch. As always, feel free to ask us for guidance during this transition; we're here to help. You can start your very first Enterprise search right here:

World Series Sweeps

Our nation's pastime is on center stage as the MLB World Series plays on between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals. To celebrate, the Friends of the Library are holding a World Champion Sweepstakes and the winner will take home a prize courtesy of the Friends.

Have an interest in the teams? Prefer one city over the other? Stop by and pitch your vote in the catcher bin next to the Adult Information Desk any time before game 5 of the series (Wednesday). Your vote enters you into the sweepstakes. Chose wisely and there's a chance you might walk away from the Library with something extra during your next visit!

Be a Science Fair Superstar!

Check out all the new science books in the children's collection! The purchase of books in seven different areas of life and physical sciences was made possible by an Illinois State Library Back-to-Books Grant. The grant focuses on materials that will help middle school children with their science fair projects.

For project ideas, you might begin with the 6-volume set Experiment Central: Understanding Scientific Principles Through Projects. Perhaps you've always wondered Why Is Milk White & 200 Other Curious Chemistry Questions. Maybe you would like to explore Jupiter and the Outer Planets. These are just a few of the new titles available here at the library and for you to check out. View our science fair display in the Kids' Room. Ask at an Info Desk for help locating more titles on these topics.

Introducing LibraryReads

Each month, your Franklin Park librarians skillfully select books, movies, and music to meet your entertainment and educational needs. Librarians across the country do the same, and we all keep in touch with what's being published and released. Now the knowledge of librarians nationwide is being formulated into a monthly list of librarian recommendations called LibraryReads. The list features the top ten books librarians across the country love, and it includes a few titles your librarians here in Franklin Park recommended and enjoyed. You can view the current and past lists for unique and satisfying reads:

Free copies of the October 2013 list are available at our informational brochure area near the front of the Library. The November 2013 list will be made available in the Library soon. If we do not own a title on the LibraryReads list, you can always fill out a suggestion form, and we will look into purchasing the book.

October is Family History Month
